A superbly inventive plot sparkling with wit and laughter. The comedy hinges on mistaken identities and comic misunderstandings. Marlow, a handsome young suitor for the hand of Kate Hardcastle, is misled, thanks to the pranks of Tony Lumpkin, into thinking that the Hardcastle estate is really a country inn and Kate merely a maid. The plot has plenty of twists and turns and keeps this witty 18th century comedy a perennial favourite with theatre goers.
